FP2012 Eligibility Information

The Eligibility period for FP 2012 is 18 July to 19 August 2011. Documents submitted outside of this period will not be accepted.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

For the Foundation Programme commencing in August 2012 (FP 2012), we expect there will be more fully eligible applicants than there are vacancies based on trends over the last few years. The final number of applications will not be known until the close of the application period on 21 October 2011. If, at the time, there are more fully eligible applicants than vacancies, we will not consider applications from graduates who do not have the right to work in the UK by 7 October 2011. Individuals in this category will be withdrawn from the national recruitment round on 24 October 2011 and their application will not proceed.

If you are a graduate from a medical school outside the UK and you will not be able to provide evidence of your right to work in the UK by 7 October 2011, you may still submit your eligibility documentation for consideration. If you are deemed eligible, you may go on to submit an application form on the Foundation Programme Application System (FPAS) when the system opens on 10 October 2011 should you wish to do so. However, you should bear in mind that it is very likely your application will not be considered.

Are you eligible to apply?

If you are a student or graduate from a non-UK medical school, or you graduated from a UK medical school prior to 1 August 2010 you must submit an Eligibility application before you can apply for FP 2012. If you are due to graduate from a UK medical school then you do not need to submit an Eligibility application. If you are a recent UK graduate (since 1 August 2010) but are not currently a student, please contact your medical school dean to arrange to be nominated for a place on the Foundation Programme.

Eligibility Documentation

IMPORTANT AMENDMENT TO THE GUIDANCE FOR APPLICANTS WHO WILL NEED TO UNDERTAKE PLAB 1 AND 2

The latest PLAB1 examination date that would allow sufficient time to take PLAB2 and get GMC registration by the start of the Foundation Programme is 22 March 2012, not the 6 March 2012 as previously indicated on the Eligibility Form.

Therefore your date of qualification must be no later than 15 March 2012. The closing date for booking PLAB1 to sit it in the United Kingdom is 15 March 2012 (subject to availability). The closing date for booking PLAB 1 to sit it outside the UK is 26 January 2012 (subject to availability).

We recommend that wherever possible applicants book their PLAB 1 exam before the last date off 22 March 2012 as this is likely to be fully booked. We are aware of a PLAB 2 exam date that is scheduled for end of May/June (exact date to be provided and confirmed by the GMC), but please be mindful that spaces are limited.
