UKFPO confirms scoring contingency plan for FP2012 will be implemented

Published: 25/10/2011

After recently confirming that there are more applicants to the Foundation Programme starting in August 2012 than posts currently available, the UKFPO has now confirmed that the contingency plan for scoring applications will be implemented.

The usual process for scoring applications states that applications will be scored by an applicant’s first choice foundation school. Due to the change in the allocation algorithm, one London school has received significantly more applicants this year compared to previous years.  As a consequence this school is unable to dedicate sufficient time to considering each application and score them all fairly by the required deadline.

In order to ensure that applications are considered fairly and resources at all schools are optimised, the contingency plan for scoring applications will be invoked.  The oversubscribed London schools will score 10% more applications than last year, and the remaining applications will be assigned to another school (s) for scoring.  The applications to be scored by an alternative school will be chosen at random.

Applicants can be assured that this will not affect the outcome of their application. Strict quality management controls, with schools blind scoring the same quality control applications, have demonstrated that there is strong correlation between scores across the UK.  As in previous years, applications are anonymised so the scoring panels do not know whose applications they are scoring.
