Dear Colleague,

Thank you for subscribing to the e-update, your official Foundation Programme information source.

- The UK Foundation Programme Office Team

On Monday, 29 October 2007, eligible applicants will be able to register online at www.foundationprogramme.nhs.uk and begin their applications.

Over the past few weeks, the Eligibility Office has been processing eligibility forms from non-UK medical students who wish to apply to the 2008 Foundation Programme. We have received a significant increase in applications from non-UK medical students and a number of them are eligible, or eligible subject to provision of additional evidence. This evidence must be submitted by 13 December 2007. This increase in potentially eligible applicants means there may be more applicants than Foundation Programme places.

All graduates of UK medical schools have the right to complete their training through to full GMC registration and there are sufficient F1 training programmes for all UK graduates. We anticipate that the vast majority of UK graduates will get two-year foundation programmes; however, some UK graduates may be allocated only to an F1 training programme, and will have to apply separately to an F2 rotation in accordance with European employment legislation.

The allocation process is competitive, as it has always been. Applicants will receive a score based on their academic ranking received from their medical school and the answers given to the seven scored questions on the application form. For more information on the application process and advice on completing the form, go to www.foundationprogramme.nhs.uk and download the Foundation Applicant’s Handbook.
