Recruitment Success
Professor Derek Gallen, National Director of the UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO) and Postgraduate Dean for Wales is pleased to announce that all graduates of UK medical schools will be matched to a two-year Foundation Programme for 2008.

“Nearly 7,000 applicants will be matched to foundation schools on 9 January 2008. With over 7,200 vacancies, we are pleased to announce that all applicants who met the eligibility criteria and essential requirements in the person specification will be matched to a two year programme. We suspect that the majority will gain a place in their first choice foundation school. We are delighted with this result,” said Professor Gallen.

The UKFPO, working closely with medical school heads, the BMA and other stakeholders, led further development of the recruitment process this year, making improvements to the online system and to the scoring process. The feedback from applicants and scorers so far has been very positive. Applicants reported no major problems and the site was available 100% of the time during the application process.

Applicants will be informed of their allocation to foundation schools on 9 January 2008.

PMETB Training in Partnership Event
PMETB is holding a one-day seminar on Tuesday, 29 January 2008 to discuss doctors of the future; ensuring they have the right knowledge and skills to deliver high quality health care against the changing landscape of service delivery.

This event will provide an opportunity to bring together patient groups, doctors, trainees, policy makers and researchers, to debate the issues and challenges around how patient expectations and changes in healthcare demographics can influence the future of postgraduate medical education. Issues include: how to make sure the doctors of the future have the right skills; how training can equip future doctors to engage better with patients’ and to work in partnership with them; and what part patients can play in the development of curricula and assessment methods.

The event is free and they would like to invite Foundation Doctors to attend, but space is limited so you must register soon. Further details can be found on the PMETB website at www.pmetb.org.uk/events
