References for 2008 Foundation Programme applicants
On 21 January, referees nominated by Foundation Programme applicants will receive an email requesting that they submit an online reference form, along with details of how to do so. The deadline for references is 11 February 2008. Applicants are responsible for ensuring their referees submit references for them.

Foundation schools: the number of posts and applicants
The number of posts available in each foundation school, along with the number of applicants who listed that school as their first preference has been published at www.foundationprogramme.nhs.uk

Complaints (appeals) processes
Three complaints (appeals) processes have been published on the UKFPO website today. They relate to the application process, the eligibility office and foundation school transfers.

  • Application process: You may request a review by the appropriate foundation school if you believe that processes or procedures have not been followed, or there is evidence of unfairness in how the process has been implemented, and the objectivity of decisions is called into question. Complaints against the application process will be accepted via email only between 17 March and 21 March 2008.
  • Eligibility office: This process is only applicable to applicants who applied to the Foundation Programme from a non-UK medical school. Complaints will be accepted via email only between 17 and 21 March 2008. Please check the process document for details.
  • Foundation school transfers: If you wish to appeal against a decision made on your application to transfer to another foundation school from either your allocated or current foundation school, please follow the process outlined in the document.

Trainee’s Guide to Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB)
PMETB has recently developed a booklet which helps clarify many of the key issues and terminology relating to medical training. It is available to download from their website in the new "trainees" section at www.pmetb.org.uk/trainees.
