Rough Guide podcasts now available

Published: 08/11/2010

The popular “Rough Guide to the Foundation Programme” is now available to download in bite-sized podcasts.

Each chapter has been made into an MP3 file lasting from four to 22 minutes; perfect for learning about the Foundation Programme whilst travelling to lectures or work.

The Rough Guide aims to give medical students and new F1 doctors an idea of what to expect during their first two years of working and training in the health service. Areas covered by each podcast include:

• Foreword/Introduction: A welcome to the Foundation Programme by the UKFPO's National Director Professor Derek Gallen plus an overview of the Foundation Programme, how foundation training works and what else to expect.

• Before you start: The application process, Transfer of Information (TOI), GMC registration and licence to practise.

• Your Foundation Programme: Placements, education, training and applying for full registration.

• Getting the most out of your e-portfolio: How the e-portfolio and assessments work and how to gather evidence.

• Your career path: Things to consider when planning your career, undertaking a taster, getting the most from study leave, applying for specialty training and where to go for further careers advice.

• What else? Options for working flexibly, the location of your training, what to do if things go wrong, who's who in your foundation school and where to go for more information.
