Foundation Programme 2011 recruitment

Published: 08/12/2010

Over 90% of primary list applicants are allocated to their first choice foundation school.

Professor Derek Gallen, National Director of the UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO) and Postgraduate Dean for Wales, announced today that 7,073 applicants were successfully allocated to Foundation Programme posts, with over 90% getting into their first choice foundation school.

Professor Gallen said:

“I am delighted that over 90% of those placed today got their first choice foundation school, although there is still work to do to make sure those on the reserve list are placed. The UKFPO and the foundation schools have worked hard to make this process go smoothly, particularly in light of the oversubscription this year. However, there is no room for complacency and we will continue to improve the process in response to feedback from students and other stakeholders.”

As previously announced, the Foundation Programme beginning in August 2011 had more applicants than available vacancies. Over 98% of applicants were allocated today. The remaining 2% are on a reserve list pending allocation to foundation training programmes over the coming months.
