Foundation Schools

Foundation schools are not bricks and mortar institutions. They are a conceptual group of institutions that bring together medical schools, the local deanery, trusts (acute, mental health) primary care and other organisations such as hospices. They aim to offer training to foundation doctors in a range of different settings and clinical environments.

Foundation schools deliver training according to national guidance developed by the UKFPO. There are local variations in some areas.

A geographic distribution of medical and foundation schools can be found in the document below. There are 18 foundation schools across the UK.
